I often wonder if instead of looking at the year and the amount of galvanising which was carried out we should be looking at which factory they came out of and seeing if there is a pattern, somebody once said that a lot of the rusty 940s (you see a fair few on Ebay) came out of a particular factory. My 88 760 has got zero rust anywhere, it was made in Sweden (Gothenberg code 1 on the vin)
740s were made across the world...Belgium is a common factory for UK 740s, Sweden, Canada, Thailand and Australia.

Laney760, not so sure about your"door"comment, see the attachment below.

Feedback would be interesting from our non-UK based members.

Our 1986 745 must be fairly unique then in having little rust...and with regard to living near the sea: it has spent half it's life a pebbles throw from the beach at Rustington(!)in Sussex.

All my 740 had rust where traiing strut is attached to chasis rail. always on pasenger side. it always required welding done to finest standard as it can be dangerous. so first thing that i was doing was to tap that place with screwdriver. if it was bareble other rust newer concerned me.

Diagram below shows the 700 series, I assumed it was from a 900 series diagram because I see so many 900s with rust around the window frames but it is from a 700 series diagram, perhaps they did never galvanise around the windows. Also there is reference in the 700/900 faq as to the large amount of 900s with rust around the windows
