I'm waiting for a new lock to come in to my Volvo specialist. He ran the diagnostic which confirmed power was getting to the lock but it wasn't budging. Trouble is he has to break open the lock to unlock the tailgate before he can fit the new one, so there's little chance of repairing the old one.

I rang the local dealer, told them what was wrong and they said they'd have to run a diagnostic for £95 (including an hours labour if needed) and then decide what to do. They wouldn't take my word the diagnostic had already been done. The specialist is charging the price of the lock and £60 labour compared to lock cost plus £95, plus any more time in excess of an hour.

Well, then, looks like a new lock is your first order of business. I hope that solves it! Good luck.

Default "Malfunctioning" Module

OK, I've returned from holiday and Evgeny's replacement module was waiting for me on my return. I checked the car this morning and it still had the fault that the gate would only half open but a further press of the button would open it all the way. So no change there. I removed the existing module and replaced it with the new one. And sadly there is no difference to the way it works. So, since the new module is almost certainly not likely to be faulty in exactly the same way the old one was, I must assume that neither of them is faulty. The fault therefore can only be a connection in the wiring. I wonder if Evgeny could say, from the symptoms which I have described, which lead is likely to be not making contact. The fault is constant and I always felt a little worried about the push fit connection of the leads. If Evgeny can predict which one is the culprit, it would save disturbing any of the others.

Sorry that I have not solved this for anyone else who has a possible module fault. And I am embarrassed that I asked Evgeny to send a replacement module all the way from Russia when it is likely that the problem is caused by my poor installation.

Lock was replaced in double quick time by my Volvo specialist. In order to unlock the original he had to smash it's plastic casing and a close look at it afterwards showed no obvious reason for it locking solid. The new lock has performed faultlessly since and so it should do at £400 inc. labour.

Do you have the Remote Close Module fitted and now that you have a serviceable tailgate, does the module work? Is the failure of your lock anything to do with the fitting of the module, or didn't you fit it? If you didn't fit it, I can't see how the failure of your lock can teach us anything about the possible problems with the module.

Probably the module is not suitable for your car.
I had a similar incident on the one XC70.
You will be able to send a single module to Wheelnut?
To perform the test on his car.

Tatsfield, send me email, I will refund

I sent around the world for more than 300 pieces.
Neither car was not damaged

The operation is still erratic. Sometimes the tailgate opens all the way and sometimes it stops halfway but a second press on the remote releases it to open all the way. It always closes on the remote. Before we decide that it is a module incompatibility, I am sure I should check every connection in the wiring. I am intending to wire in spade connectors into the leads which have to connect with the module wiring so that I have perfect connection and not just jamming the hook ends into the back of the multiway connectors. When I've done that, we can make a better judgement. Until then, don't worry about a refund. Meanwhile I'll arrange with Wheelnut to send him one of the two units I have for him to test.

@Wheelnut A PM with an address would help me get this done.

Sorry. I haven't been checking the forum for the last week or so. Tatsfield I will pm you my address. Much appreciate your assistance.

I finally got around to checking the wiring today and it is all spot on as per the instruction PDF file.

Does anyone know the part number for the trim clip pins which hold the tailgate trim on? Most of mine seem to have broken with the number of times I have had the trim off!
