Creaking Dashboard - Page 2

I've got a knocking and it's driving me mad.

5th gear, between 45 and 55mph gear lever vibrates and knocks....

A few other creaks and groans, but nothing nearly as annoying as the above. Even my wife has noticed it!

It's the only disappointment with the car, other than the satnav.

Creaking dashboard update:
Asked dealer to look at it during routine service. They applied a lube to the centre stack and asked me to give it week or two and see if it improved - it didn't. I booked it in again and they have removed and rebuilt the centre stack and applied foam/felt tape to the contact surfaces and it seems better, although it's early days!

Is a rattling high up behind the rear of the door trim common in a V60 ? The dealer I took it to did something which made it better for a few days but it's back with a vengeance. They also screwed up the paintwork; scufffed in that area/ did a quick bodge up job try to hide it, so I'm reluctant to take it back to them.

Hi mine too has developed this center console creaking I think its coming from nearer the gear selector area..... on acceleration and braking (chassis flex !?) R Design D4 auto 3000 miles on the clock. It is very annoying and distracts from what i think is otherwise a quality car. Frightens me the prospect of dealer taking the trim apart sooner do it myself but tools and assembly drawings I dont have. Surely they all must do it they are all built the same ? there must be lots of experience around the problem and the fix. Any further experience on the matter would be greatly appreciated thanks.

My dealer was very good fixing a noisy centre console on my V40 CC. There was a tech note about it that they followed FOC under warranty. Just book it in and they should fix it OK. Won't be chassis flex, Volvo designed bodies are unbelievably stiff.

Just had ours booked in for exactly the same issue after just under 2 months from new. I mentioned the technical bulletin that others have mentioned on here but they couldn't find it for the XC60!

Got to wait another 2 weeks until they can attempt to fix it. Complete centre console strip down apparently!!

Really annoying especially considering the cost of the vehicle.

Sure really don't expect a "basic" fault like this. can't wait to hear how you get on with the dealer fix (practice on yours first !) Please try to find out exactly what they do. I'll call mine see what they have to say.
Your'e right they ain't cheap we expect top quality for this price.

Did a bit of sniffing around as its getting on my nerves.......... with a couple of my left hand finger tips placed dead center behind the floating part at the upper most region (where it effectively joins/touches the fixed dash so to speak (the floating part has a slatted section at this juncture) and to my surprise I could actually "feel" the creak when braking /accelerating effectively this slatted section was rubbing/ moving against the tip end of the dash. Inserted a piece of packing at this point and hey presto the creak has gone........... well life isn't so straight forward ! ..... 80% of the noise has gone as clearly that was hiding a lesser creaking noise which seems to be eminating from the gear leaver surround area. I'm tempted to get the silicon spay out but could prove messy just what i don't want. Hope this is understandable/ helpful.

Well ours goes in tomorrow for a strip down. The original checkup the Volvo technician thought it was creaking from 3 places.

Won't get it back until Friday but will feedback what the solution was hopefully.

That sounds like where our V40 CC creaked and there was a Volvo tech note on that about how to fix it. Dealer also found a few wires that had popped out of place and were rattling so fixed those at the same time.
