RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Hey guys...
The National VOC one sounds good-i think i will only be doing one, so yeah, wouldn't mind going along. How's about you Matt-will 'er in door's let you out to play (nah, i'm just kidding matey ;-) ). The split from the gf was a much needed and good idea! Nuff said! As for the breathing....still on the s/steel backbox, which is how it's going to stay i'm afraid (boo, hiss!), but i am still on a standard filter. I want a decent but cheap one....i kind of grudge buying an expensive one....bout £20 would be good if anybody has any ideas?? Student Lamo's, honestly! Dan

If you want to buy one, buy one....but for goodness sake don't spend any time thinking about it - Air filters are pretty much the most talked about, least effective upgrade out there :)
cheers James

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Hi, Dan, just to say, I have a stainless steel 'racing' cone filter on my 460 Turbo, and it's great. Absolutely no restriction, but I'm not sure how good the filtration is. Obviously it'll stop the odd cat or twig from getting in, but I don't know how good the filtration is when it comes down to tiny dust particles.
It is simply a s.s. mesh you see, but the sound is awesome, and I even noticed the spool up time was reduced even more. What's more, you can hear the stock CBV as clearly as any old BOV, which is quite cool. It's from an online shop - http://www.turbobits.co.uk/acatalog/air_filters.html They are £29.99 each, which is much cheaper than a K&N. Regards, Crispin Oh, and Mr.Slater, any more info on that rear spoiler?:)

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Looking very nice there James! Also at you Mr Crispy! A question for Crispy....what size is the air filter (i noticed 3 sizes there) and at both of you really-do you have to have to have a specific filter for Tirbo/Non Turbo or shuld they all be ok?
And i noticed Matt is bidding on that 460 Turbo with the kit on eBay....any plans there Matt?? Airfilter is so tempting now....don't get paid until the 13th April...aagghh! Dan M

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Hi there,
Mine is 3", (the neck of the filter that is) and the original hose which connects to my old airbox is 2.8". The necks on these filters are rubber, and so are flexible. Use the jubilee clip that comes with them to clamp it down onto the existing hose. I'm not aware that there should be any difference on what sort of filter is best for turbo and non-turbo. I think the idea is basically just to get more air flowing through the system without having to work much harder. (But obviously porting is the way formward, and I would do that if I had that sort of dosh, which I don't!) Although, I have to say, mine's doing nothing at the moment, as I have no cold air feed leading to it yet, as I'm stuck here at uni with no tools or anything!! But hey, it sounds cool!:) Crispin

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Well, i bit the bullet. Got me a nice new GMax Universal air filter-bargain £30 too. Nice little sharp 'suck' when i put my foot down, and a nice but subtle roar from the engine. Nothing ott, but noticeable. Masive space at the back where a Turbo should be mind you! How much do you reckon a 1.7 Turbo engine transplant would set me back? Just an idea for the future maybe possibly maybe....!
Just got to sort my cold air feed now.... Wow, my first engine mod! :-)

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
£100-200 for a decent engine, plus the cost of the swap...probably sub £500 all-in. If you can do it yourself, and get lucky on a tight engine...potentially sub £100. Insurance is another matter...
The wiring will probably be your enemy! cheers James

Or just bolt a turbo on to your 2 litre block, tis been done on a 480, you can run low boost through the standard engine, or if you alter the compression ratio, youll get a higher boost.
