XC60 Newbie - Help Needed
Hi
Just joined the forum, but have had a 2010 XC60 D5 AWD (205) Rdesign from new. It now has 98000 miles on it and has been a reliable and comfortable car, having been serviced by a Volvo main dealer all its life. I now have 2 problems that I'd appreciate advice on: 1. The power steering is very heavy at low revs. I'm assuming it is the pump, but the garage is saying it might be the rack. Changing the pump is costly enough (£400), but I wouldn't want to change the pump for nothing if it turns out to be the rack. The pump fluid looks clean and there are no other steering defects. Is there any other way than just taking a gamble and changing out the pump? 2. I have a whine coming from under the car. Difficult to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from, but I can hear it on load, off load, in gear, coasting out of gear. The noise pitch increases with speed and it is my guess that it is one of the diffs. It is probably the rear diff, but I believe it is around £1k to change this out. What if it is the front diff?? Anybody with advice on how to pin this down? I've just changed all 4 tyres, so it is definitely not tyre noise. Finally, as the car is 8 years old and is approaching 100k miles, I feel that the Volvo main dealer who works on it is not really that interested and we may be better off elsewhere. Can anyone recommend a good workshop, either Volvo specialist or otherwise in the Towcester/Northampton area? |

I see you are in Towcester, near me.
I can highly recommend AR Mills in Middleton Cheney. They are a family run Volvo specialists. 01295 712359. They also run courtesy cars. The whining noise sounds like something I had in a MK1 Audi S3. The rubber donut had worn out on the propshaft to the rear wheels. |

Try The Garage at Blakesley, family run and competent, we have used them for years to do all our non-warranty work and servicing.
