Default 440Si 1.8i Fuel Sender Unit

My first post here!

I have a 1995 440Si 1.8i. It was my parents' car from new and it was donated to me in April 2005. Registered on 1 July 1995. Silver dawn metallic with optional air-conditioning (which still works, just not very well) and optional 15" alloys originally used on the 850CD, both in lieu of the sunroof. I have been driving it for almost all of its life.

Apart from one major incident involving the remote entry system/immobiliser in August 2005 that caused the car not to start and resulted in a £700+ repair bill from a local Volvo dealer, it has been a great car.

I now have two problems, though! The gearbox needs replaced; I have found a few options, but I'm not about to put a brand new Volvo part in - even though they are apparently still available!

The second problem seems to be that the fuel sender unit has given up. This does not seem to be as easy to source. Apparently the Volvo dealers can't source them at the moment. I am wondering if it's some sort of temporary supply thing as I had a problem getting bushes for the gearchange a couple of years ago.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a hold of a new part - even if it's not an original Volvo part?

Have to confess to really liking the car - sad, I know, but never mind. I am, however, coming to the conclusion that its days are numbered; even if I get the latest repairs done. I had new rear wheel arches fitted last year and got most of the car resprayed, so it looks pretty good at the moment, even though some rust is creeping back here and there.

I may have to face up to the inevitable and buy a new car, but I would prefer not to at the moment as I have my heart set on something a little bit exotic and brand new that I can then drive for the next fifteen years! That's probably, however, slightly more expensive than I can afford until I have done a little bit more saving!

I have found NORDIC car parts have always been very good at getting what I need for my 460. You can find them from the link on the home page.

You're sure it's the sender that's broken and not the fuelgauge? If the gauge isn't working I would first check the electrical connections and wiring from the gauge.
