Default Aux Belt Change

Anybody know when the Aux belts should be changed on the 2 ltr VEA engine.
I read 54K for the 5 Cyl and you have to request it as it is not automatically part of the service. Some have said 108k/10yrs at the same time cam belt due! Seems a long time for small belts!

150,000 miles / 10 years , same time as the cambelt … and they are not small belts on the VEA engine , they are very robust like they used to be .

for the 5 cylinder it is 54000 miles and Is certainly a mandatory part of the 54000 and 108000 mile service !

Many thanks Clan. Belt technology has certainly advanced. I am a way off 10 years 150K but some of the VEA's may soon be starting to approach 150K. Would a pulley and tensioner be part of that change as well?

oh yes the full package the kit contains belt , two idler wheels and tensioner , you will also need the service kit which is extra , it contains bolts for the crank pulley .

I wouldn't say belt technology has advanced , except the VEA ones have some sort of Teflon coating on the teeth .., you probably don't remember the days when volvo cambelts , aux belts and rollers and tensioners lasted forever . The 240 and 850 tensioners were very high quality with a needle bearing for the swivel and were never changed .

Tagging on to this post ...

When should the aux belt drive on the XC60 3.0 (T6) 6-cylinder engine be changed? This engine does not have a cambelt - rather a chain drive for the camshafts.

Thanks

Just to confirm if I may please - should the aux belt on the D5 be changed every 3 years? Or is it purely mileage related i.e. every 54,000 regardless of time interval? Many thanks.

Hi

I think it's 54,000 or 5 Yrs whichever occurs 1st with 108,00 or 10Yrs for the Cambelt (aux belt as well).

Must check my service schedule, I think the next is the 54,000 service for me but the car won't have hit the targets on either Mileage or Age, it's just the next one in the book.

Tagging on again, we have a XC60 2015 D4 AWD, so it has the 5 pot diesel. It is due a 3 year service, and is at 26,000 miles. Local dealer has put on the quote " V031330870 Belt at £32.40" are they taking the wee with us??

Also "Cleaning inside windscreen in front of camera for cars with collision warning" £20
