Default Intermittent power loss

Hi all,

My 2008 v70 D5 with 140k miles has started to have power issues.

Most of the time it drives perfectly but occasionally it won’t accelerate, you can put you foot flat to the floor or manually drop it down a gear on the auto box but it is still really really sluggish with maybe 10% of the usual acceleration. If it’s on a hill there is no chance of any acceleration.

This isn’t a permanent issue, I’ve just done about 500 miles in the past week and the issue was probably happening for about 20 minutes total across all those miles.

My first thought was the turbo failing but it’s intermittent so I’m not sure..

There are no codes after scanning and everything else seems fine, mpg etc.

Any ideas what this could be?

I’m hoping something simple like the MAF…

Thanks in advance for any help

Ben

Is your oil level OK? I had some kind of power loss going up the hills in Turkey all of a sudden, pulled over, checked oil level and it was on Min. mark. Got some oil level sensor fault codes too. Put in some oil, cleared codes, let it some rest and all was good. Maybe rough terrain and high heat made it consume some oil. Mine is over 180k miles 2008 S80.

Few things;

What code reader are you using?

Has it had a recent air filter or fuel filter change?

It could be a blocked up EGR valve

Any hissing noises when you accelerate? Check for split hoses

Your car will have swirl flaps. Is the connecting rod still in place i.e. the plastic arm that moves the swirl flaps?
