Fitted a genuine Volvo air filter on an XC90 D5 the other day and it was blue.
To be honest though, fit a Mann or Mahle aftermarket filter and the performance will be the same.
I only fitted genuine as it came as a great deal bundle with all the other filters.

My D5 is orange and a genuine filter. I just go Volvo and ask for discount, works out the same as local motor factors. My genuine air filter has Mahle on it, genuine oil filter has Mann.

Volvo will buy from whoever gives them the best deal and makes the part to their specification. When I have bought genuine filter parts they have been Mahle or Mann. I now buy Mann filters because they are cheaper but I know they will be the same quality as the parts in a Volvo box.
It doesnt matter whether the seal is blue or orange Volvo haven't made it anyway.
