Default Rear fog lamps

Has anyone else had an MoT failure, because there nearside rear fog lamp was not working?

That is incorrect you do not need one on the left hand side ...

This is from the testers manual , the Bible which the MOT Tester has to memorise word for word ...

This inspection applies to the one rear fog lamp
which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside
of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980.

I think the quote was when challenged, “if a lamp is fitted and wired, it should work”. (From a main dealer)
My local MoT test centre had no problem with just the offside working.

Mine is a lamp c/W bulb but not illuminating. I was only asking out of curiosity if anyone else has had the same happen to them.

I had a 440 back in the 1990's and that only had one fog lamp working (the offside). One day I looked at it and there was a bulb fitted - but there was a break in the conductors on the bulb tray (which was clearly quite deliberate) so I just soldered a wire across it to get the lamp working.

The point being that clearly for some markets Volvo chose to have two fog lamps working, for others including the UK they choose the O/S only.

My XC60 2013 model only has the o/s fog lamp working. The n/s is wired and bulbed ready to go but not operating as per Volvo factory engineering settings for UK roads, I am told. The MOT tester knows his onions. The main dealer well🙄

the quote is directly from the Tester's manual , there is no other reference to the left fog lamp ..

When I queried the fact that the rear nearside fog lamp did not work was told that it was set up that way, I have since found out that if you have to brake very hard not only do the hazard flashers come on but both rear fog lights flash with the brake lights. I have tried to get my local dealer to get both working but they said they were unable to programme the control box to do this.

I have never braked hard enough to trigger such a response from my lights, there again sat up front I would never witness it happening. Have you seen it happen or tried to get your lights to respond in such a manner?
