I simply can't afford the price hike for the new model - feel like a kid with his nose pressed on the shop window looking longingly at a prize beyond his reach!!

I think the price hike is huge!....Having said that, the new model feels generations apart from the old model and the technology in the new one is stupendous.

When I test drove the new XC90, I was blown away.
It such an effortless drive.
Has anyone else noticed how difficult it is to stick to the national speed limits in this car?

Just found the pricelist from when we purchased our 10 plate D5 Active and the XC90 Executive V8 has an OTR price of £49,995, maybe the reduction in the range over the final years of the 1st gen got us used to the £30k XC90?

Yes, driving is effortless, I'll soon have to drive sensibly and see what the fuel economy is like!

We've had our D5 Inscription for 7 weeks and so far it has been fabulous. It has just had its 3,000 mile check but no niggles at all. There are certainly things that take some getting used to such as not having the key fob in your pocket when washing it but so far absolutely delighted with the car. We do have the B&W sound system and the air suspension both of which I think are fantastic (although I haven't tried the MB version).

The door locks do seem to expect a 1-2 second delay before trying to lock after closing the door, and I find that I have to push the 'touch sensitive' button rather than just touch it.

Really happy for you.

Out of interest , did you try the standard spring suspension and if so,how does it compare with the air suspension in your view?

My local dealer could not get me a demo with the air suspension to try out.

Thanks Yeoman. I ordered the car way back at the beginning of January before I could test it and I did think long and hard before ordering the air suspension. I haven't driven a leaf-sprung car so I can't say how they compare, but I am pleased with the air shocks (especially in dynamic mode) and have read some mediocre reports on the non-air versions.

That's interesting, as when I ordered, I was told that as only the wider screen was available I had to add that as an option.

I do not think the new 90 is a natural successor of the previous 90. The previous 90 was all about safe, family car. The new one is more bling have you seen me. It is much larger and cost same as lr disco sport which to me is 10 times more attractive. If i had £60k to buy a oversized suv, this is where my money will go.

Sincerely hope quality improved with new 90 as previous one was not up to german standard. A lot of premature issues and dealer not supportive at all even when they serviced the car from new.

I think the 1st gen XC90 ended up somewhere in-between the Japanese/Korean options and the German/LR Disco options. The SPA version is definitively in the German/LR camp now.

Yes, the Disco Sport is a good looking car from the outside, although the XC90 wins the looks contest for me, it's just a pity LR forgot about the interior (unless they wanted a retro theme?) and the engine.
