My drivers seat base (foam, electric heater and leather) was replaced on 26th June. As per my previous post I was a little concerned about the colour match - I need not have worried, the colour match is spot on and the stitching matches the passenger seat which was not replaced.

When I picked it up the service manager came with me to check I was happy and warned me that there may be some areas that looked a little loose on the leather but that it would become un-noticeable after a few hundred miles of the seat being used and he was absolutely correct.

The technician who did the replacement did a great job and in fact I would defy anyone to tell it had been replaced.

Thanks!

But I am a bit confused. I thought the whole point of the replacement was to get the new seats, with the different stitching, which should prevent rapid wear on the outer sections of the seat. So they replaced it with the old seat/old stitching?

EDIT: this is what I am talking about-the TJ that mentions the new base stitching. Note that the TJ itself calls for replacing only the affected seat... but I think that's BS. If there is a problem, both seats should be replaced, in my opinion....

The first time my driver seat base was replaced for excessive creasing I had the same, that Volvo were very clear to the dealers that only the affected seat was to be replaced. Externally the seat base looks exactly the same, I believe the stitching change is internal.
A few months later my passenger seat base had to be replaced as well as the leather was peeling on the leg extension edging. This was replaced and externally again looked exactly the same. So far so good with the passenger seats showing no further issues during it's limited use.
Recently my driver seat has again been replaced with leather peeling on the base side bolster where I get in and out of the car. Early days but so far so good.
On all 3 occasions only the affected seat base was replaced and the colour match has always been perfect.

I have had a closer look at both the front seats today and the replacement leather (driver seat) has an extra row of stitching.

I will try and photograph them both tomorrow to show the difference.

The new line of stitching has been done in the same colour of the leather so is not as noticeable as the other which is white.

Thanks for the feedback!
I still feel it's a bit of an awkward call, to replace only one, on Volvo's part, but, if it's not too obvious....
Will post pics once I get the new seat as well.
Cheers!

That was my concern, but honestly it was not noticeable on my seats. My bigger concern was that if the drivers seat has gone then surely the passenger seat is likely to be the same at a later date.

As promised photos of Drivers seat with new leather and passenger seat with original leather.

You can see the extra row of stitching on the replacement but it is more noticeable in the photo than it seems in reality.

Mine are the sports contour seats so maybe different, I did not notice anything. Both mine have been changed now so will not be able to check any difference.

Thanks for posting, I really appreciate it. Yes, that's exactly what I was expecting. I guess, as long as color is a good match, the extra row of stitching should not be a big deal. Still, an awkward choice from Volvo, especially as they recognize that the old seats have issues.

Hi all ....just been reading through these issues which seem to have quietened down .... does anyone know if the issues have now been rectified at production and if so what build dates the changes happened as I’m looking at buying a MY17 from stock in the UAE so may have been built a while ago.

Thanks.
