Strange whooshing noise
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help diagnose this problem - When accelerating from 50mph I'm hearing a strange whooshing sound (not what I would call a whistle) from the left hand side of the engine, there isn't a noticeable drop in power! Any ideas? Also, the clutch pedal stayed on the floor the other day, I lifted it back up by hand and it hasn't dropped back down since and the clutch is performing as normal, is this a sign of the master cylinder on the way out? The car is on about 107,000 miles. Thanks for any advice. Gez. |

I can only comment on the clutch as I've had that happen to me before on another car. It was a slipped clutch cable that basically re-adjusts itself when you pull the pedal back up which is why it's fine now.

This only applies to turbo and turbo diesels since you didn´t specify engine :
Maybe a turbo pipe is split (you are hearing the turbo itself), check the large rubber hoses going to and from turbo / intercooler for cracks/splits , Could also be a sticking valve in the Y section of the intake that bypasses the Intercooler (this Y pipe and valve in only found on cars with DPF) |
