Red face v50 exhaust

hi ,, after an mot they told me my back box on the exhaust was on its last legs ,, which was a surprise on a 2008 car , anyway i had a look & its very rusty n flakey , but i noticed the exhaust is in one piece after the down pipe this meant a complete new one ,, however on a web site ive seen that it comes in three pieces , front section , back box & tail pipe ,,,, my question is can the back box be cut out & re-fitted to the old middle section ?? has any one done this ??

if it's anything like other car manufacturers they'll do replacement sections so you can cut the back box off and put a new one on. the new one should have a sleeve on it that slides over the OEM center section.

this should be the same in the center section as well.

These silencers are tripple layer so i would wait a long time until it blows before you take any action , i have never seen one go yet even on a 2005 ...!

yes i know what you meen i was quite shocked when i looked at it ,, the rest of the pipe is fine ,, but there are large parts of the outer layers simply flaking off the back box ,, very odd , ill try to post some photos ,, by the way its done 80k , although each section is around the £35 mark it may be better to replace the lot ??

It will only be the outer skin, mine had an advisory for the same thing 20k miles ago and was advised to replace it by a Volvo independent. This year no advisory for it from two different mot places and was serviced by a dealer and they said nothing wrong with it and will last forever.

Deffo no point in replacing it and if you do with a pattern part you will probably be replacing it every few years.
