Default 480es 88 ICV seems to work

Cleaned my valve out and fixed the wires, the car is still hunting as the valve opens to full. I swapped the wires and it closed so it seems to be working. I then adjusted the potentiometer to as low as it would go, the hunting stopped but the revs were high at 1800.

Any ideas guys

cheers jace

have you let it warm up, it should stop high revving after about a quarter of the way up on the temp needle

yes warm or cold the revs are high. started it today revs were lower at between 1200 and 1500 on tickover.

just a thought it overheated before the hunting started, no damage to the engine though as it was just warming up standing still. I caught it as it started boiling up. a rubber strip was stuck in the fan.

any help is a help

Since you mention it overheated, perhaps the coolant temp sensor has given up the ghost? The one for the ECU, not the one for the Info Centre, that is.

Just a thought

Ah...480's are "great little cars", as you say, but ask anyone who is smitten with them (like me) and they will quickly tell you that living with one can become something of a love/hate relationship!

Keep us posted!

i know what you mean, love the volvo side, hate the renault,

why on earth did volvo get that rubbish involved.

this 480 has been fully rebuilt at a cost of more than a now one but still has troubles. now the central locking has stopped and the heater controls all switch and light up but don't move the direction.

great
