Default 2k mile Bavarian road trip completed!

Well it was pretty epic: amazing scenery, castles, mountains and the weather was mainly great too.

The C30 T5 handled it well, it's got enough power to handle the autobahns and it did me proud, and I only saw one other C30 on the entire trip!

Key stats:
–2k miles
–Drove through France, Belgium, Germany and Austria
–Managed 130mph on an unrestricted autobahn(car felt stable)
–Achieved just under 33mpg

Negatives:
–The boot is damn tight for two people with 11 days worth of luggage! (although we did overpack!)
–Picked up a chip in the windscreen and two on the bumper (touched in already)
–The aircon acted up on one very hot day (suspect compressor clutch)
–Rear caliper stuck on one day providing a bit of a smokey scare! Slacked off the handbrake cable and will investigate further

Overall for a 9 year old, sub-£10k car I think it did really well!

Looks like a good trip, nice photo's.

Sorry on the autobahn, was that 130mph the most it would give? and is yours mapped or standard?

your aircon problem sounds exactly the same as I am having! just trying to make do with turning it off for a sec and then back on seems to cure it, although that would be quite repatative on a long drive

Thanks Dom. Mine's standard, no remap, but I backed off at 130 as there were cars up ahead in the adjacent lane, it had more to give though. Felt pretty solid even at that pace, I've had cars before that feel a little light when going into 3 figures.

There's a youtube clip on how to 'fix' the compressor clutch with a cable tie apparently... when I get a little more time I'll investigate as some make it sound like it's a DIY fix.

hahaha thats incredible do update here if it does fix your problem as I will have a shot at it as well!

ok that good, yeh depends on the time of day you hit the autobahns as they can get quite busy. Yes took mine on the autobahn as well defenitly interesting to see how these feel at speed, but your car should feel very safe at that speed and also quite a bit faster as well.

What have you taken yours up to Dom? I know it's mapped but interesting to know! Mine was showing closer to 140 on the speedo but satnav said 130mph so I think that's a more accurate reading.

Will update re the aircon fix!

thats great, hope that works! would be a very nice cheapo fix.

My speedo goes up to 160mph so thats the only thing I could read really, car still feels planted though.

Had the same issue with rear caliper sticking... I think the handbrake mechanism by the return spring just needs a bit of cleaning/lubricating.

Good report dear car twin - some nice company with the other cars too!

I'm impressed with your 33mpg, when other side of the channel I usually put on the cruise at 80mph and mine usually seems closer 30mpg.

One question, mine has absolutely zero speedo error when compared with gps, even up at autobahn speeds, I've always thought it was because it had the 18" wheels fitted (with 215 45 18), but wondered how you fared with bigger wheels?

Hi kmb! When are you selling me all your optional extras?!

My mpg is good on this car, can't complain about it: the worst I got on the trip was 29, best was 35 (worked out by maths, not the in-car display), and driving was a lot of autobahns, some 'A' type roads and a little bit of town driving. Sometimes we'd cruise at 70-75 even on the unrestricted autobahns. I think If I was at 80 non-stop I think I'd possibly see closer to 30 too.

And yes, my speedo slightly over-reads more with the bigger wheels. Obviously the thinner tyres get the overall diameter very close to the stock set-up, but they do add around 2 mph at normal driving speeds, so a real 30mph as indicated on the satnav would normally show perhaps 32/33 with 18's, now it might show more like 33/34... guess it's better that way than under-reading!

Just realised yours doesn't over-read at all... on all my previous cars the speedo has always over-read a little, but I can't be 100% sure the C30 did when it was on it's stock 18s... and they're not going back on for a long time so I won't be able to check!
