Advice please...
Hi everyone,
thinking about buying a 480 to have as a 2nd car / hobby (always wanted one) and was wondering if any of you have any hints / tips for me as I havent a clue what to look out for. Currently have my eye on one that has been laid up for a year after the owner stopped using it, it still starts and drives but obv has no tax / MOT. The owner has never put it in for an MOT but says no advisories its previous test (he's owned it for 4yrs). The car is an 1987 reg and appears to be ok on the surface; also the price what should I be paying? Am I being mad to consider this car or are they pretty hardy wee things. (My V70 is 11yrs old; has higher mileage and still good as new underneath) Any help suggestions greatly appreciated. AL :-) |

well this early model will have suffered water leaks inside from a variety of places , all should have been fixed but look for wet carpets and perhaps a rusty floor underneath the carpets .. Rear wheel arches usualy rust through after 10 years ...
Info centre may play up . But being parked up for a year is going to make the car deteriorate more than using it 5 years on the road .. You might well need a set of brake discs and pads and the rear caliper handbrake adjusters can sieze meaning you will need 2 new rear calipers .. Price will have to be nominal . £200? Do the day running lifghts and pop up headlamps work ok? Metal brake pipes rusty? ( i think the 400 series never had copper brake pipes like the 300 and other models did ) The rear lights could well be faded now , expensive at nearly £100 each Otherwise there shouldnt be too many issues , much in line with other 400 series cars .. If it is a B18E engine with the twin bore throttle body and tubular exhaust manifold it will fly , its 115 bhp! Its NO V70 for sure ....
