2010 XC60 D5 AWD, loud grinding sound
As above, I didn't witness the noise it was my missus, while driving on a straight bump free road, the Car made a bit of a bang then a very loud grinding sound and was lurching froward on and off, she pulled up straight away, while putting it on the recovery trailer the guy said it sounded like a sharp edge of a spring hitting the front tyre when it was moving, I asked her to ask him to look instead of guessing she said it was deffo a spring, Thus I rang a mobile mech and asked him to change both, he did this then told me they were both fine"brilliant"! Could have looked 1st, now the car is just making a whining noise on some surfaces, that I assume is tracking due to the spring change? I think the driveshaft splines may have come out and when the mobile mech did the springs they have slid back in the gearbox housing, as she said it was very loud and scary, I'm going to drop it off at Volmech near to me as I work away and just don't have the time to sort it myself, I did try to look but there was to much in the way but the drive shaft bolts were fine and tight on the hubs.
SO, does this sound possible?, I had only had the car a week when it happened. Any other suggestions welcome.👍 |

If the new noise if dependent on road surface, that's probably good news.
But I think the best advice is get it to someone who knows what they're doing...
