Question Awful creaking noise

Hi everyone back to pester you all again lol

My problem is that in the last while my steering has made an awful creaking noise ( by the way I dont have power steering if this helps at all) when turning the steering wheel like a groaning squeeky creak noise and I was wondering if someone could enlighten me to what the oroblem is and how to deal with it?

many thanks again

Oh another question, does anyone know if power steering can be "retro fitted" to my car, Volvo 440 1990 as it doesnt have any and it would really complete the car if I could get it installed

Ps I got my headlight sorted yes it was a fuse lol mum sugested it before I went onto forum to read you all say same thing lol thanks everyone

Yes it is straightforward to install power steering from a scrapped car , you need the pump and bracket , the pipes and hoses , the steering rack and the longer belt .
This was a thing the dealers did in the early 1990's when a batch came through without power steering which should have had it ...
The creaking could be a number of things you need someone to turn the steering whilst you locate the source ..

Creaking can be caused by the droplinks from the stabilizer bar. Common failure and easy to replace.

mine creaks and has for the 3 years ive owned it, sounds like a coffin lid being raised by the dead, i have power steering. Ive not found a cure and have learnt to live with it, i dont even notice it now but its still there. Its been through 3 mot's like it so whatever it is aint worth spending money on. Old bangers make odd noises.
