I shall be interested to see responses from those who have done this as I have this job coming up soon when I get around to buying a replacement wing.

There is a write-up in the FAQ which makes it sound fairly straightforward. Looks as though both the bumper and the panel/cowl under the windscreen wipers have to come off to reveal hidden bolts.

Never done one on a 7/9xx Mark but all other cars i've done or seen done have needed the bumper off and usually the headlamps.indicators out as well.
If memory serves, i seem to recall seeing a hidden bolt behind the indicator/sidelight unit when i changed those if that's any help.

Maybe you could do a pictorial write up? I suspect as these cars get older, more and more people will need it!

Front bumper has to come off as there are some bolts behind it.

Arch liner needs to come out if fitted.

Scuttle needs to come off as there is one bolt underneath it.

Remove the scuttle by undoing the one bolt either side that holds it in place, then it just pulls up and out.

Remove all the bolts along the edges of it and there are three in the door shut then it pulls off.

Not strictly true that the bumper has to come off, it can be done without.
There is also a bolt in the middle of the wiper valance.
While you have it off try accessing the very inner/inside of car panel through a hole that has a white, plastic plug in it on the outside of car panel(exposed when the wing is removed) and, using a long tube attached to a sealant cartridge, seal up the plastic ‘cap’ that Volvo put in having deleted the sprung hinged vent(opened and closed by hand) that was fitted to earlier cars.
The rubber seal on this cap/plug ages and stops sealing, with resultant leaks into the footwell.
It is difficult to seal neatly but any amount of sealant liberally smeared on will help. This is easier than trying to remove the cap and seal it from the other side.
I will try and post a pic of car with wing removed which will illuminate the above.

I will probably remove bumper on my own car as it will be going to paint when both new wings are on

Assume wipers need to be removed then ?

Following this with interest as I am presently “preserving” both my front wings with rust killer and filler on the bottom edges in front and behind the wheel arches. Both wings are original Volvo.
Good idea to have a trial run on a breaker first.
Are they still available or will I have to opt for pattern ones?
Does anyone know if fibreglass wings are available? I once fitted fibreglass wings to a Talbot Sunbeam in the distant past.

I may be wrong on this Ian but i think fibreglass wings died a death because insurers wouldn't use them for repair work, also i think there were a few cases where they wouldn't pay out because fibreglass wings had been fitted - altered the specification of the car to withstand impacts and some such.

With that in mind, would you really want to compromise the built in safety features of your Volvo with (what many may consider to be) sub-standard, weaker wings?
