Default T8 Owners and Electric charging costs

My Energy supplier contract is up for renewal, and current are almost doubling off peak costs BUT

EDF are offering a go Electric Tariff for electric cars:-

Peak 17.8p per KWH
off 8.01p per KWH

Daily rate 28.60p per day.

But the kicker is they install a smart metre AND OFF PEAK then would be:-

Mon-Fri 9PM-7AM
and ALL WEEKEND IS OFF PEAK COST

That could prove to be a substantial saving for using an electric car, shame it is only a year tariff.

Who is the energy supplier and is this deal just for existing their customers?

Argh! Sorry, you've already said that it's EDF. Doh!

How many miles do you get on a charge?

I will have to go on a standard metre for a week or two, until the smart metre installed and only then does the electric car tariff starts.

I get 23 miles to 30 miles on a full charge depending on route, and speeds, faster you cruise the less miles you get, but tbh on like a 60 mile journey with regen and battery charging down hill, driving upto 35 miles on battery over 60 mile journey, it is certainly better in the summer than winter.

Since last service (week ago) and updates I seem to be getting a little more out of range.

Sorry if this comes across as spam, it is not meant that way.

I still have my xc60 diesel but recently brought a BMW i3 so charging costs were a consideration.

I went with Octopus Go, it is only for 4 hours each night but the rate is 5p per KWH off peak and around 14p peak and a 25p standing charge.

You need to work out how much of your charging is done in the day versus charging, for me I am combining octopus with solar PV and batteries so I can charge those at night but this is as much a eco decision as it is financial.

Now for the spam, mods if this is not allowed please feel free to remove it, I always look for cash back with energy but the best offer is their referral scheme, I used someone else’s and if you use mine we both get £50 credit. The link is

Note that as with EDF You need a smart meter they can read, I have a SMETS2 but they can work with Secure branded SMETS1 and if you don’t have one they can install one but that is on hold for a few months while they test them.

I charge mine every time it needs charging, day or night, so I do charge it during the day, especially over weekends might even be 3 times in a 24 hour period, I also use electric for many other things, and it would be nice to use dish washer and washing machine, and heating water up during the day at weekends at a far lower rate. for me it is a win win.

As for Day Rate, not a great deal of difference on other tariffs.
