Default Flatspot-fuel starvation

Does anyone know what could be the problem here? On 2 recent long journeys my 57 reg 1.6 diesel V50 has developed this very disconcerting problem. When trying to accelerate on an incline(to overtake a slower vehicle) and latterly when just driving up a hill, the car has started to loose significant power,as if being held back by an unseen force/dragging a jolly heavy load. This seems to get significantly worse as the journey progressed. Allthough I have always found yhe engine slow to respond to the throttle,I always put this down to yje size of the engine. However, this is a new problem, which is really rather scary. The car has driven just over 60.000 miles,is well cared for and much loved! If anyone has come across this,I would appreciate hearing how you solved this problem! Thank you!

the first thing to do is change the fuel filter ... if it runs ok at low power but not at over say half power.

The filter has to be eliminated first and it has done about 24000 miles with another 12000 to go before it is changed . One bad batch of fuel can block it . It WAS changed at the 36500 mile service wasnt it ?
You will need a hand bleeding tool to bleed it after changing the filter or you will never get it going again .

Does this engine self bleed, even my 850 Tdi does that.

After reading your advice,I took the car to an independent garage who assessed the situation, found that the hoses leading to the DPF had melted and replaced these. They cleaned out the nossles and had a good look at the DPF,did to that what was needed and put my car back on the road within 36hours. With some driving advice speciffic ro a diesel engine(stop being so "gentle") I left a happy customer without the astronomical bill I was expecting. Thank you for you quick response,it was really most kind and put my mind at rest.
