I guess that depends how realistic the cash settlement is.

I gave up with keyless entry that I had on a Merc and VW when purchasing the XC60. I tried a pouch from Halfords which even from within the house did`nt stop the signal.

You all seem to be on the understanding that this is fine because it's insured. But who pays the insurance premiums?
I'd be furious if I was sold a car with a tracker to be told sorry we can't track it!

I do not think Volvo sell a car with a tracker, they sell a car with a tracking facility for VOC, there is a huge difference between the tracker on a Volvo and proper after market tracker.

I do not know the OP's situation we are all assuming it was taken with out keys, for me it will only be time before insurance companies will not cover the cost if people leave their keys with in a range that can be reached.

There is some responsibility for the owner to try and prevent theft.
It is quite common knowledge this type of theft happens, anyone with a keyless system should know about it, but just assume it will never happen to them.

Hi
It does seem strange that (as mentioned earlier in the thread) that they don't make the "keys" with the ability to go to "sleep" when they become static for a period of time, i.e. When hanging on a hook in the house or on the side.
It would only need one small extra senso in the Fob.
It would certainly cut down the times the keys are vulnerable.

That's a good idea. I understand that some manufacturers (Mercedes?) provide the facility to switch the fob off which disables the keyless functionality. Of course you've then got to remember to switch it back on which partially negates the convenience of having keyless entry.

The "sleep" idea would work better.

+1 from me. That would seem to be a really simple and excellent idea.
