C70: Real world fuel consumption

Can anyone tell me what the real world average fuel consumption would be for a 2000 MY C70 Coupe, 2.4T auto?

My convertible averages about 30mpg on mixed normal driving.lt is a manual so would be a bit better than an auto.

I'd say I get around 24mpg in my 05 2.0T C70.

Thanks. I’d seen a smart C70 coupe for sale, and was tempted if it’d offer better mpg than my S90, which returns a steady 25.9 mpg average. But if it’s not really much different then I’ll resist the temptation.

So many variables, type of journey, how well maintained the car is, what tyres pressures are, what type of fuel you put in, and lastly how lead footed you are, if fuel consumption is a really world issue for you then maybe a little Corsa 1.3 CDTI would be better rather than a heavy old C70, I get mid teens if I’m lucky out the 850, I really don’t care!!its a laugh!!

Like I suspect quite a few of us on here, I do while away the odd hour scanning Ebay and Autotrader for old Volvos. Now I love my S90, and when I bought her my daily commute took exactly 11 minutes each way so MPG was not a concern. 6 cylinders, a proper autobox and 200+ bhp is a wonderful way to travel!

Then I was made redundant last year, and now my daily commute is a 60-mile motorway round trip.

I would like if possible to reduce my travel costs - at the moment it's costing me around £75 a week in fuel.

LPG is a serious option, then I saw the C70 and it occured to me that if the MPG was perhaps in the mid-30's then a swap might make sense.

I've also thought about diesel, but having had one oil-burner I've no great enthusiasm for another. And the very notion of anything that's not a Volvo, or was built this century goes against my every inclination!

Jack have you not thought about a V70 D5, I know you’ve said about no desire for another one but, we have a V70 D5 pre facelift, 240k, on a run we get mid to late 50s, even with the van on the back we get late 20s!!!

My dislike for diesel stems from the experience of the one oil-burner I’ve owned, a Saab 9-3. It was a good car, but the DPF regen palaver, swirl flaps and EGR really put me off. That and the contribution that diesels generally make to the environment.

Or is that unfair?

Do some D5 engines pre-date the advent of the DPF?

No doubt it’s a issue much discussed on this site so I’ll go do some searching, but if anyone knows the answer in a single sentence I’d be very grateful!

The D5 is in the phase 2 and later cars, these have the VW TDi engine, which has EGR but none of the other palaver. I'm pretty sure that's right, others will correct me if not.

I also have a BMW 330D which doesn't have regen stuff but does have swirl flaps, or at least it used to, I had them removed, which is costly but not as costly as a new engine, so I know what you mean. At least it doesn't have DPF!

For me, a bigger issue is the increasing size of zones where you're not allowed to drive a diesel, but the size of that problem depends on where you live and where you want to drive. I hope that politically diesels are allowed to fade away naturally rather than be banned outright, but hey, let's not get political about this here, eh?

Euro 3 stuff pre facelift D5, 163bhp is what you want, no DPF etc, bullet proof, rare find but they do exist

The original TDI was a VW engine in the 850s and the P1 V70, but the P2 V70, is 200% a Volvo lump
