When I bought My V70R AWD from Reading (a volvo Dealer) I drove down from Newcastle to see the car decided to buy it then the following week caught the train again from Newcastle to Reading, the dealer collected me from the station, collected the car and drove all the way north again.
It depends I suppose on the age, the type of car, and how rare they are (V70R AWD are fairly rare and manual more so) how long you have been looking.... Asking if there is someone local is a good idea gives u a bit of an unbiased opinion Good luck what ever you decide Cheers Bob |

I know guys who'll travel 1000km to get a car at the right price in Aus, and then tow it back on a trailer.
When I get back to Aus I'll certainly be looking at buying interstate as a car from some of the other states is cheaper than buying in NSW, and less likely to be damaged by hail or flooding (if it's a Victoria car) I drove 2 hrs to get my Land Cruiser in Aus, and travelled upto 3hrs to look at vans when we were buying our van. I was willing to travel as far as I needed to to get what I wanted, which is basically what you need to consider.

I drove to b'ham before to view a car on ebay, (that's 5 hours if you drive slow enough!)
probably around 3 hours, plus an extra hour trying to find the dam place. I bought said car, returned a week later with a friend to take me down and drove back very happy. and that was for a car with 106k on the clock! |

I am travelling to Ipswich to look at a car that is 200 miles, no idea if I will buy it but have a good feeling about this one. It is up for 3K and rare-ish in the spec I am after so worth travelling for.
I see you are on here as well Ed, car forums are a small world.

I travelled 600 miles to get a car off eBay a few years ago. If it is the one you want and all is well then what is a few hours travelling?

Some guy dove from Manchester to Maidstone to buy my V70 last week then back again (approx 250 miles each way). He arrived at mine about 1130pm had a cuppa, handed over the cash. Went out front, hopped in car and started it. Said it sounded good and off he went.
I've beee waiting for a call from the Manchester plod tellign me it's been used in a robbery or something similar. |
