Default AP brake questions

Hi Guys,

Hoping you may be able to help me out here......

When you buy a set of AP's new out of the box they are 28mm in depth.
However the minimum wear is 27mm, dosen't seem very much.

So now that my AP's are on 27mm do I really have to replace them?

Secondly, Grooved or drilled...Which is best?

When I bought my AP's from Don they came with drilled, is this AP's recommended disk?

Thirdly (sorry about this) when I do replace the disks do the replacement disks include the alu bells?

Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

Patrick

P.S. I bought my AP's in June 2005 and have covered about 16K miles with them.

Hi Patrick
I will double check the minimum thickness for you but i am sure they are 30 mm new and 27 is the minimum i replaced mine after 3-4 years use but no track days.
I would go for the grooved over the drilled they will crack between the drills Ap always supply the new kits with drills unless you ask them other wise.
The new discs will not come with new bells but do get a new set of the allan key bolts and nuts

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your great reply, even 3 of them!

I believe they are Ferrodo, at least they are what ever came with the kit.

Perhaps Don may be kind enough to confirm that.

The paperwork I have that came with the kit clearly states that the original thickness is 28mm and the minimum thickness is 27mm.
This is stated on the A4 cross sectional diagram depicting the kit that is supplied amongest the instructions. Worrying.

My discs had worn so I got rid of the car!

The cheaper grooved discs were £220 each and the nut and bolt kit to attach them to the bells are £18 for each side. That was from Circuit Supplies.

They lasted two years/30K and were then so worn as to drone when hot- I couldn't have got more wear out of them. The 1mm wear is I believe correct!!! Probably did that in 12 months with no track use and Ferrodo DS2500 pads (the best IMHO).

I paid £360 for my kit second hand off this forum many years ago.

The cost of replacement consumables is nuts and I couldn't live with it anymore!

Hi the standard maximum wear on a Volvo disc is 3mm i believe, that is why a lot of us run or are going to run Brembo 4 pots with Volvo discs,
I am currently making up and sourcing parts for a Brembo set up that will use the 302mm discs, instead of the costly 330mm discs, i know all about the heat dissapation but have found a smaller caliper that will work fine on the 302's, watch this space,

Gary

sorry to derail the thread.

gary, thought you had done the above upgrade on yours allready?

watch this space gary about the s60r discs!! lets just say i reckon a pair will be much cheaper than 1 ap disc.

also, with your brembo kit are you not worried about warping as your still gonna be using the std discs?
