On my phone I use 2Gb (My Allowance) by about the middle of the month, far quicker If I tether it to anything.

On the SIM in the car it all depends on the use but my son will easily use 2Gb in a longish journey, I also use it for streaming music If I can't find anything decent on the radio.

I'm about to switch to RTTI on the Nav as well so I expect that will also increase my use (not by much though).

On occasion I'll also use my laptop in the car for work (Parked up of Course) or another example is uploading pictures to the Net that I've taken.

Having the SIM in the Car means I really don't have to think about what I use.

Just be aware of something!

Three's feel-at-home roaming is epically good, and ahead of anyone else (especially for me, as I regularly travel to the USA, which no one else covers at that price). HOWEVER, the big caveat that seems to have been missed in this thread is that when roaming you can not tether - you can only tether in the UK.

My last 12GB data card lasted for just over 9 months (for some odd reason I actually got almost 14GB out of it!) with it being used for RTTI, the odd use by grandchildren accessing grandad's car wifi zone, and a lot of Spotify access when the radio music choice was c**p!

I also use the car's other sensus apps occasionally so I have no complaints about the 3 network sim card as it suits me fine.

Picking up on your last comment, a friend's son has just received a disciplinary warning from his employer about excessive personal use of data on his company phone!

When I went to France this year with my 3 mobile card in my phone I had no problem tethering to my tablet. Where does it say that you cannot tether when abroad?. I have just read the rules and you can use the tethering if you are on their advanced plan with unlimited data (in the EU) and also if you purchase a Data Passport at £5 per day (World destinations). I think this has changed to these rules recently because I don't remember it saying that before.

Thanks alot @cassell, useful information.

Think I'm going to go for a 12GB card initially and see how much I use.

Employer is fairly relaxed about data use but I don't want to take the p!ss and suddenly bump it up by 5GB a month! We have 2GB standard per month and I rarely get near it as connect to WiFi whenever possible (inc home and main office).
