I have been hoping for a reply to my previous question. I'm surprised nobody has taken the oppertunity to advertise the advantages of having a dedicated insurance sheme for club members.
Having an understanding of the cars in the club (standard and modified) must be a great help to members when getting sensible quotes. My latest quote was very cheap compaired with some others but no actual reason for the lower price were given. Has a new discount or allowance for modified club cars come into effect as the quote is more than £100 cheaper than it was from yourselves last year. |

Sorry for the delay - things have been very busy here since we announced the prize draw incentive.
The truth is we're allowed to do more for car club members/enthusiasts than we are for the average man/woman on the street. As long as there is a car club connection, the insurers on our panel are happy to trust us to set the rate, which is usually a response to an alternative quote a member has received. We do our best for everyone under the VOC scheme regardless of whether they are a fully paid up VOC member or a forum member. To have a pricing differential we would have to artificially inflate the non-member's rate and nobody wants that, not least because it's not a fair business practice. Ultimately, the association with the club gives the insurers the re-assurance that you are a better class of driver and are less likely to take risks. As far as other benefits go, we offer a 'Recommend a friend' scheme, multi-car discounts, loyalty rewards for extra products, excellent rates for Breakdown Cover and GAP Insurance. As a broker we are here to give you all the ongoing support you need throughout your time with us, looking after your interests if you need us following a claim. We can also call on model-specific expertise from within the club and, as we work with the club as well as for the members, we are accountable to more than just each individual caller. If you need assistance or have general questions we're also available for contact via the forum and are happy to investigate any issues that arise. I hope that explains a little of the essence of the club scheme offering.

Thanks very much for you reply.
From what I have understood then there is no advantage in terms of the insurance you offer or the cost by being a member of the Volvo owners Club. Members who take out insurance with you are effectively helping non members get cheaper insurance. I have tried to use your company to insure my car for the last few years but the quotes I have been given are only slightly cheaper than other companies offer, but there have always been the need for an engineers report before I could go ahead with things. This year however the quote was considerably cheaper. No proper explanation was given as to why after going over the same thing in previous years things had changed so much, and no need for the engineers report now either. I had hoped that you had become the Volvo specialists I was expecting from your adverts, and not to rip me off because I had dared to modify my car like most other companies, but I don't think this is the case. I still don't know the real reason and because of this I have lost a lot of confidence and respect for your company. |

Not quite - if no VOC members took out our cover and only non-members did, they'd still get the same deal. VOC members are not subsidising the cost of non-members' quotes.

Quote:
Rates change, criteria change, insurers' appetites change, our panel of companies changes - there could be any number of reasons why this year's quote was much lower than previous years. If an engineer's report was requested previously this implies maybe an engine swap. If you've had cover elsewhere for some time and an MOT or two since installing the engine, the engineer's report becomes superfluous. If you'd like me to look into this specifically please PM your name and postcode and I'll comment with all the facts to hand.

Thanks for explaining the rules regarding engine swaps. It sounds like I shouldn't have been asked for an engineers report last year, or the year before. This was my main reason for not using your company and and you have lost two years buisiness because of it
The comment about being ripped off wasn't only aimed at your company but the way insurance companies in general deal with modified cars. Sorry if it sounded that way. For example if I had a 998cc Mini and fit the engine from a 1275cc Mini I would pay what it costs for the 1275cc Mini plus an extra amount just because it's modified. The quote I got this year was pretty much the same as it would be for a standard car. If it had been explained that you now look at modified cars in a different way and could offer a more accurate quote instead of just adding a fixed extra amount for a modified vehicle that would have been great. This year you have given me the cheapest quote. Because I haven't been given a complete explanation why it's so much better then previous years or if I will be able to get a similar rate next year I am reluctant to change from the company I am currently with. I will contact your company directly if I have any furthur questions, thanks for trying to help. |

Seriously guys this is looking like some kind of testosterone fight. Does it really matter who gets a decent rate for their Volvo insurance? Let's face it, most brokers are out to rip us off; so as we're all Volvo owners, let's share the love and help eachother out to get a fair premium.
As this broker is willing to discount the premium and recieve a smaller cut, then the more people who do insure with them, the more likely it will continue to be offered, as they can stay in business. Let's help them to help us. Have a great weekend xx |

Did you join just to make that post Trombonegirl ?
It's strange how this forum seems to gain new members armed with large spoons intent on stirring things up again, I hope I am wrong in this case as they usually get banned shortly afterwards. As I said I did contact Chris Knott again and I am now insured with another company. |
