Default Engine starts... engine stops!

I am having an intermittent problem with the old barge where it can go for weeks without problem and then for no apparent reason the car will start, throw a wobbly and then stall, with the car going into limp mode and a variety of displays on the clock. It will start again if it is locked up and revisited after a good hour but not before.

I am suspecting something linked to the immobiliser as looking back it seems to occur if the doors or the boot lid has been left open for a while... I have been leaving it open to vent after having wet and soggy dogs in the boot or because it has been akin to an oven inside with the recent spell of very hot weather.

The alarm service message has been showing for the past two years and so a new alarm module is probably needed but it’s never caused an issue... or maybe it’s beginning to?

The battery is only 18months old and is holding a solid charge.

Any ideas as to what is going on? Maybe time to go and get some codes read...

Have you pulled the alarm siren fuse?

I don't see how the immobiliser could cause limp mode, it'll either let the car start or not.

But limp mode should generate an associated Diagnostic Trouble Code which could be read using an OBD scanner (not sure if your car is OBD1 or 2) and this should give a useful hint as to the actual problem.
