Default (Another) ABS/Anti Skid Service Required Thread!

Have trawled the various threads on this and concluded that there could be various reasons for this message popping up on my XC as I travelled south for a long weekend break on Saturday a.m. With the help of his site & the handbook, I tried the stop & switch off /restart option with success...twice on the way down. I thought it was just a temporary issue & tha it had resolved itself, but it came on again twice today...the first time was just after I'd put the cruise on again....leading us to believe it was tied in some way to that, but alas it happened again with no cruise on! Again, it reset with a restart & the last 60 miles (mostly motorway speeds) didn't trigger it again.

Haven't had any recent work done on the car (but had noted some irregular wear on the front tyres & some increased vibration thro' steering when hitting potholes/speed bumps etc) . I use an Indy...but from some of the threads wonder if it'll need to go to the dealer.

The car is filthy after our trip...so is it I worth me giving the wheels a good clean inside & out first.

Will see how she goes over the next few days on my mainly town commute to work, but meantime any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

I had this on my R Design (ABS/Anti Skid Service) and it was a faulty speed sensor on the front driver's side. The part costs very little (think it is a flimsy silver cog) but it cost around £90 to diagnose and fit - seem to recall it was a hub off and driveshaft out affair. Since then no problem with the other three (so far). They seem to corrode and the teeth break off. Prior to this I had a top mount replaced under warranty and wonder if it may have been damaged or weakened when this was done.

Prior to this I had "Anti Skid" for a faulty steering wheel clock sensor (replaced under warranty).

I have owned two XC90s and "Anti Skid" is by far the most common fault condition I have encountered. In my case it would clear for a while only to reappear and always resulted in a dealer visit and a repair of some kind. Hate the idea of driving with the ABS and DSTC not functioning 100%.
