Well I done my 07 S40 today in the freezing cold and driving snow 🤣

The old filter was dated 2014 and weighed a ton.

The cables on my cem and fuse board were really tight and wouldn’t let me pull it out. I whipped the glove box and then the inner box out. Made it really easy to get the new filter in without folding it. It also made getting the door back on and the fuse bracket back in really easy.

Absolute ****ter of a job, I can’t imagine that ever getting down on a service.

Now I've done it a few times I honestly don't find it that bad with a nice long 3/8 extension bar.

It Always gets done on a service , it's part of the job , It takes about 7 mins after you have done a 100 or so ... When the cars were launched in 2005 the official volvo time was 48 minutes , later it went down to 25 mins ,,, today you get 13 minutes to do exactly the same job ...

7 minutes! wow

Being the author of this thread and having repeated the procedure about 4 times myself I can do it in about 20-25 mins.

If I tried to do it in 7 mins I'd be a quivering mess and probably break more things than I fix in the process

I did a little test on my friends car that went to volvo main dealers for services, and I marked the old one before it went in. Sure enough they changed it.

I know main dealers get a load of stick for not necessarily doing everything, but on this occasion it was done.

I do think main dealers get unfairly criticised on car forums generally, it's mostly due to the hourly-rate but as far as their service and compliance goes then they have to be squeaky-clean surely?

Warranty providers and the 'UK' Office won't tolerate mishaps or defective work and the liability would bear down greatly on the dealership if stuff goes wrong?

Indeed yes , the audits they have twice a year and mystery shops , and the consequences if things are not changed , not worth a court case and loosing your job and reputation is it ..

i think a Lot of that criticism stems from the attitude of whatever "person" you end up dealing with When things go wrong,
the Mis-communication between
The owner of the car Knowing the symptoms
person doing the phone/paperwork for booking in
mechanics Doing the work
extra people in the chain - Chinese whispers as the story goes down the chain AND the same Back UP the chain mechanic that Fixed it > service person at the desk > client

or the Knowing they are telling a flat out lie to your face and not giving a hoot,

unfortunately the "mechanics" now seem to be "computer say,,,,," robots without the level of skill that USED to be "the norm" at a Good dealership

all combine to get the reputation they have be that Good or bad,,,whichever it is they Usually have earned it themselves by there own actions/inactions
