After verifying my old engine, I know exactly what append to it.

Step 1: Low pressure turbo failed. Some oil flows into the inlet side. after 10mn, more than 1,5 liter to 2L of oil are inside hoses, intercooler and collecting bins

Step 2: Oil level sensor don't see very very low level. It take 25 to 30mn to update !!!! As described in service manual :
"Once the right conditions are in place filled, approx. 20-30 minutes are needed to update the oil level information. The
time also depends on the size of the level change. This is before the ECM can establish the
current level. The more important the oil level change, the longer the time it takes to update the oil level."

Step 3: Suddenly, oil pump don't have enough oil, the oil pressure drops and the engine is no longer lubricated, and in this f**king D5244T10, THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE SENSOR !!!!!!!

Step 4: oil in hoses come back into intake engine and now, big smoke and engine at full throttle...

Even though I stopped the engine very quickly, it was too late.

In 20km, no indication of oil problems. Result: engine dead...

Thank you to the engineers for saving a probe for 20 euros...

Any noises or performance degradation to indicate that the low pressure turbo was beginning to fail?

I feel your pain. It is stupid beyond belief.

Found this by Landshark in another post on this forum "I was talking to a mechanic today who said that euro 4 d5 engines from 05 to around 2009/2010 mostly dont have an oil pressure switch. There are exceptions, factory police versions etc but most dont. If you look at the block under the filter and just below the split line there will be a blanking plug where the switch would go.You can retrofit an oil switch from a euro 3 engine but you will have to wire it through a separate light as the wiring is not there in the engine loom."

See https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...=300496&page=2

I assume this applies to the Euro 5 engine also.

Having read spookyfr's story, I will be rigging up an alarm on my D5244T10

No, really nothing... No smoke, or change sound or shocks in the engine.

Thank you Olaf for this information, I'll add gauge for oil pressure and real dipstick for oil level. My Volvo distributor can have theses parts !
