Default Problem loading Sat Nav

My Volvo displays the error message on the Nav, everytime I start the engine. I have 2 sets of Nav installation discs and neither cures the problem (the DVD drive works fine with MP3 and music CD/DVDs). Although I don't need the Sat Nav as I use Google Maps, it's annoying !

Main dealers want £99 to diagnose (not cure) the problem and although I'm willing to pay, I think that £99 with no guarantee that it will fix the problem, is a little steep.

Is there a way to cure this problem or can I switch the Nav off so that this message does not appear?
THANKS

If you are on Windows try using this program to burn the discs you have to ISO format and then burn the ISO's onto higher quality recordable discs. It may be that the ones you have now are the cheapest the supplier could find and the laser in your sat nav reader can't see them.

Thanks for the tip. Tried that, with no success, unfortunately but nice DVD writing software.

This might be a stupid question but are you sure it's a DVD player and not just a CD player?
Also, what constitutes a "high quality blank recordable CD or DVD?

Definitely a DVD Player. Plays my DVD's containing hundreds of MP3's but also plays "normal" music CD's. I've tried Memorex and Verbatim DVD's both RW and +R with the same results. Thanks for the input

Cars with 7" screens usually also have High performance multimedia or Premium sound infotainment systems. In that case, they have a DVD player.

Cars with Performance or High performance infotainment systems typically have the 5" screen and a CD player.
