Here's mine. 1989 740 GL 2.0 estate, 175k miles and counting...

I see quite a few of these trundling around my neck of the woods, some of them regulars, some just passing through.

'89 740 GLT 16v saloon here...no pics yet. I will admit I like these because they are a lot of car for the money, saloons are getting rare now but remain available for pennies

Hi folks, I'm a new boy here and this looks like a good place to start.
Heres ours, its called the Stilton:

We bought it 5 years ago as an emergency stopgap - our previoius Merc 300TE was so unreliable, Bee (the better half) refused to drive it anymore.
We paid £250 for it. It had 245000 miles on it.
It now has 330000 on it and its just passed its MOT again - just needed lower balljoints and a small patch on the drivers floorpan; oh, and the usual attention to the handbrake.
Best car deal I ever had!
You can just see our reason for needing a big estate round the back there.
Heres a better shot:

Funny as the other sort of car I was considering was a Merc 300td. Shame mine isn't an estate but I have a very big field at the end of my road so the dog can just sit on the back seat for the limited times he does go in the car.

Yeah; Mercs & Volvos are the only game in town if you have a St Bernard.
He uses the car as his Kennel.
We probably got unlucky with the Merc, but parts prices were murder - £80 odd for a fuel pump relay!

That's exactly how BB looked when we bought her. Except US version.

Looks good in white, Stephen

I imagine that quite a few of the 740s and 940s in Cambridge are owned by university professors who bought them new and can see no real reason to replace them. They'll make good buys when they do, though
