Alarm not working
I've just discovered the alarm isn't working, when I lock the car with the fob the indicators don't flash to show the alarm is active. when i unlock the car with the car the alarm doesn't sound when i open the door. and i sat in the car locked it with the fob and waved my arms around and the alarm still didn't go off so i think i can say it doesn't work. does anyone know where to start fault finding?

Check to see if the alarm module is connected, it is located under the battery tray bolted to the chassis leg. What tends to happen is the backup battery in the alarm module wears out and the alarm starts acting up or the module can develop problems and as a replacement from volvo is very expensive people tend to just disconnect the alarm.

Hi there first try the micro switch on the bonnet catch if you look at the catch the locking bar on the bonnet pushes a stainless steel strip down what i did was push it down with your little finger and operate the fob as if youre locking the car to see if it works normally, if not you will needto look at the alarm module on early models its under the battery carrier later models under front wing gatos might be able to help with a module if needed.Volpete

My alarm failed after false triggering while travelling on the M6. It turned out to be the the micro switch on the bonnet lock as mentioned above.
In my case the alarm sounded for about 15 mins and then burnt out,so I fitted a 2nd hand one from a scrap yard it works perfectly and only cost I think £10. This might help if you have a later car, mine is a 2003 V40: http://bertram-hill.co.uk/VolvoV40BonnetLock.aspx |

Hi Guys.
Had the same problem after fixing my bonnet cable. Alarm was not arming, no dash Led, and no flash from indicators. This post helped me fix it. The Bonnet microswitch tested ok. with a Multimeter. Alarm Armed with bonnet up and microswitch depressed with A finger. I tweaked the microswitch actuating strip towards the latch. Problem Solved. Thank you all for posting. Saved another expensive trip to the dealer. Chris |

my car has this problem and i suspect its the module which i found under the front wing covered in muck last weekend when changing the wing.
Might look into getting it sorted one day. |

Ah the Lemon car! so you have decide to keep it then? did you ever get the dispute settled?
As suggested the bonnet micro switch is a good culprit. Easy to adjust and cheap to replace if necessary. |

My father just bought an S40 1.8 year 2000, and the alarm is making false trigering.
I suspect that it's either a bonet/door sensor, or the alarm module. If I disconect/remove the module, is there any problem? Does the remote continues working to open and close the doors? Also, is there any picutres, diagrams or howtos on howto disable the alarm? |
