So you saw the ropey discs and spotted the dodgy handbrake when you bought it? Fair enough.....good haggling points Not sure why you're moaning about it in your opening post then especially as they're consumables Hopefully you got some money off for the dodgy clutch too as any clutch and DMF that fails in 1000 miles of buying must have felt like a bag of spanners in a cement mixer.

Sounds like you bought a lemon: best take someone with you next time who knows their way around a car. The RAC and AA offer the service for a reasonable price I think, or you could consider using a trader as you'll get a warranty.

...as you did not spot all those faults on the SAAB you purchased !
All of those faults occurred during the course of ownership (5 years and 130,000 miles), not shortly after purchase, the point being that no used car (or any car for that matter) is ever a dead cert and my SAAB was not the mechanical wet dream you seem to think SAABs are (or rather were).

Thank you for your "Premier" input, the usefulness of which is under consideration.........

Smile End of Saga

Just to tidy up this story, I asked my usual garage to change the second drive shaft (you know the one the first garage took out to change the clutch and then rechecked as ok before replacing the other side) while the car was on it's MOT test. They removed said shaft and then went to fit the new one but the motor factors had supplied the incorrect shaft. So the old shaft was refitted and I was asked to rebook the job when the correct part had been sourced. I drove away and guess what, I have not had a sound out of the thing since, despite purposely trying to get it to knock. So despite the stick I took from the experts on here for buying "a lemon" it would appear the lemon was created by crap garages not doing their job. Pity my usual guy was on holiday when the clutch slave went, could have saved me a lot of grief.

So for the moment can we say that the 'mistake', rather than going back to Volvo was in fact going back to 'crap garages'
