Default Help- Tools for clutch work

Hi
Whilst replacing the rear main seal I plan to update the clutch
Can anyone tell me where to get hold of the right:
1) clutch alignment tool
2) pilot bearing puller
Hoping it's a once- only job so low cost is good!
Many thanks
Dave

Clutch alignment tool: You don’t need one. I line the clutch plate up by eye and have never had a problem. You can also, by looking at the peripheral edge of the clutch plate, see if it is centred.

Pilot bearing puller: I’ve never tried it myself but have read somewhere that a rawl bolt makes an excellent puller.

A clutch alignment tool isn't expensive but you can make one out of a short length of wooden dowel. I inherited a gearbox shaft along with some bits and that's probably the ultimate tool.

Clutch alignment : when I did mine at the garage the tool was a handle with an assortment or crappy tubes/cylinders in a box, ostensibly to get tight clearance to the splines of the clutch plate so I would have the thing centred.
Meh.
It's been good, job done but to be honest it was 'by eye' really and the very experienced mechanic said he did it by eye too.

I could design and make a foolproof alignment tool if I was doing the job a lot : the standard box of bits was utter crap.

You could buy this for your clutch aligning, although a dowel and the correct amount of gaffer wrapped around it works fine, and you can get the bearing out using grease, like this.
