Default Running tyres on ECO settings

I was checking my tyre pressures today and saw that Volvo give details of an ECO setting. I have checked this forum and Google in general and I understand the science behind it but I would be interested to hear about anyone's experience of actually running their tyres on ECO settings. We all know the difference between advised MPG and the reality and I would like to know if this is the same.

Does it have an obvious effect on handling, does it increase tyre wear, do you genuinely get better MPG?

I run my C30 2.0D on ECO pressures (36 psi all round). First set of tyres were retired at 21,000 miles with a little life still left in them. Tyre wear was even and getting the pressures right was worth about 2ish mpg - every little helps. (It is more important to get the pressures consistent than to get them at an exact figure - pressure gauges vary anyway). I have an IPD roll bar so it handles anyway.

Thanks for the reply. There are a couple of threads on the S60 section and they tend to recommend splitting the difference between the standard eg 32psi and ECO, 36psi, settling for 34psi. Those are the settings for the S40 and so I may start at 34psi and move up to 36psi over time.
Your reply is helpful in that it confirms even tyre wear, no excessive wear either. I take your point as well about the importance of getting the tyres set at a consistent level.
For S40 drivers I will come back at some stage and advise how the car handles, road noise etc. at these settings.
