V40 XC no stop start
its a T3 petrol manual.
the car is a 2016 model. it is an exmotability car and when i bought it it had around 11500 miles on it and now it is about 12700 on it the stop/ start has stopped working. when playing with the menus is says unavailable and then poking at the menus more it says electrical system charging/ low battery temp. then yesterday before i got out the car. (i had manually stopped the engine) it flagged up low battery and shut off the radio before i opened the door. i'm taking it one of the 2 batteries is gubbed? i didn't even know it had two till i opened the volvo owners manual app Last edited by ghostwalker; Jun 21st, 2020 at 18:19. |

I have a 2016 V40 petrol auto and the stop/start stopped working and the display always said unavailable/ electrical. The car does about 200 miles a week which was always enough to keep the main battery charged so I took the car to Volvo dealer who advised that the main battery was on its way out and replaced the battery at a cost of £180.
Have you done a long run in the car to see if that will charge up the battery? |

Car battery is low. System disables it automatically when battery condition drops past a certain level. In need of charging or a new battery.

as i hadn't had to jump start it or charge battery they said it was fine never saw a tester, just the person on the desk otherwise it was an overnight stay and a £120 plus VAT on top to check it |

Stop/start on my XC60 goes dormant when only doing short journeys, needs a run of an hour plus to become active again.
No stop/start over winter or during lockdown when I only do short journeys, never had battery fail yet. I think that is how the system works and is nothing to worry about. |

You can check both batteries at home with any ELM327 dongle and free Car Scanner app (Android or iOS):

It's the battery (the MAIN battery), for sure. I had the same scenario about 2 months ago. Short infrequent journeys (Covid lockdown) and I thought it simply doesn't charge enough. Then the "low battery" started to pop out every day or two, and S/S seemed never to work.
AS I replaced the battery, S/S works all of the time, and short infrequent journeys are enough to charge it. So it IS the battery, it's just the matter of when it will stick the tongue out completely. |
