Mixture screw access
Hi,
Can someone explain this mixture screw setup to me? Solid tube with a handled device sitting on top. Nothing in my books or what I Google loooks like this. There doesn't appear to be access to push anything through the tube, and the "stick" doesn't appear to have anything useful at the end. Any ideas? Thanks

It looks completely outside my experience - I presume this is on a K-jet injection engine? - but all the same I can never resist doing some research on a query, especially if no one else seems to have any ideas.
The nearest picture I can find shows a somewhat similar unit, with a cut-away diagram of the mixture screw. It explains that there is an allan key hole in the plunger, and that the normal allan key spanner allows you to know how far you have adjusted it. What is meant to happen is that you engage the key in the hexagon hole, then press down the plunger against a spring inside the tube. You then turn the key to feel the end of the plunger engaging with the adjuster, and then turn it to adjust the mixture. My guess is that yours is stiff with dirt so the plunger is stuck, or else it is the wrong size allan key and so isn't doing anything. Can you press the spring down? https://www.landiss.com/mixture.htm |

No, my problem is the security plug. The problem is that all pictures and descriptions I found, including the one in my Bosch book, didn't show the tower. Also, the security plug was always described as a US emissions legal thingy, so trying to push the handle-on-a-stick through this unknown tube wasn't really working as expected. So you've confirmed I just need to drill this plug our and I should be good to go. It's funny, I've been aware of this adjuster for decades, I've never seen this spring setup. It's just supposed to be a hole for an allen key. Maybe it's a setup for later models? Anyway, thanks, you have made my day.

Originally from the factory they had a little white plastic security seal which had to be prised out to enable a long allen key to locate it in the arm under the tube. The plunger showen was only fitted to some markets so you would simply just pull out the plunger and insert the long allen key to engage it in the allen screw in the arm attaching the metal plate to the fuel regulator barrell. with the plunger still in place i would be surprised it the allen screw is full of dirt.
