ERAD - should be replaced by VOLVO even after warranty it looks like common issue on T8.

If you bought it at auction or from a private seller then I would get it to you local Volvo dealer for diagnostic and cross your fingers. It could be simple or it could be ruinously expensive.

Over the last 6 years of the SPA cars I have never heard of this fault before.
Thanks all for your responses on this.

FYI, I had the car with the main Dealer Spirit Volvo in Dublin. It ended up being an ICE timing issue. They think that the timing belt was changed by a non-Volvo dealer technition and as the timing was off by two teeth. Apparently they have special equipment to prevent one of the shafts kicking when the belt is being changed. Volvo Service HQ had seen this before and recommend checking the timing. So new belt and timing adjusted, hybrid functionality resumed as normal. I hope this helps someone in future, but I guess it is a very rare issue.

And buy what instead?

I don't see any other brand being much better or much worse.

I had awful experiences with Audi, have had 2nd hand experience of 2 complete horror stories about BMW with complete engine failures and was massively disappointed with Honda (even though I kept hearing how great they were - in reality they were pretty dismal).

I am really pleased that it has worked out well and has not cost you a fortune.
