My mother just purchased a V40 under the Selekt scheme from a dealer in Hampshire. The MOT had an advisory on one tyre - they said it would be looked at under the selekt criteria.
Once the deal had been agreed to purchase the car they called to say that not only would the tyre be replaced, but delivery of the V40 would be delayed as they needed to replace an alloy wheel as well.

That would seem to be the correct approach to this premium scheme for used Volvos.

While still legal, a tyre is effectively scrap at 3mm as they cease to tread water at that point.

If the seller is going to let the car out the door with only 1mm of useful life left in the boots I would wave adios and buy elsewhere. Seems an easy decision to me - it's not as if there's a shortage of cars to buy at that piece level, so why waste ypur breath on them?

Thank you. That's very helpful information. Is there a SELEKT guidance around MOT advisory items?

The car went through inspection and MOT this week in readiness for collection. The inspection report from the dealer has highlighted that the two rear tyres need attention soon. They have an average depth of 3.6mm and 4 mm.

VCheck report has actually highlighted two MOT advisories:

1. Nearside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing tyre wearing on edges (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
2. Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing tyre wearing on edges (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

Dealer is insisting that the tyre meets SELEKT criteria and they wont be replacing the tyres. Am I right to be concerned?
Thanks to everyone who commented / advised. The dealer has agreed to replace both tyres at their cost. I am now going ahead with the purchase.

I bought mine from volvo but not selekt scheme as it were too old.

After purchasing it and paying for it they placed it through a service and identified that it required new front discs and pads.

They did this at the dealership and I had the full year breakdown recovery etc extended. And that was non selekt.
