RE: Name and Shame ?
Bob - I really don't see the problem in reporting dealers that we have found particularly helpful/good etc.. Yes, others may have opposite experiences of the same dealers, but I'd guess over a large enough sample the really good ones will stand out.
Perhaps Volvo UK might like to beneift from us helping them in their customer satisfaction programme? Paul

RE: Name and Shame ?
I do not wish to start anything that could hold the club or anyone liable to legal action by naming & shaming, but believe the only way forward for Volvo Cars & Volvo drivers is that each of us receive:
Good service Value for money and Wish to continue to purchasing and driving Volvo cars. I like many others have encountered rude and arrogant Volvo dealership staff looking down on you if your car is more than 1 year old. My recent experience with Volvo has once again proved that dealerships are only interested in making quick sales and nothing else, which leaves me to think ‘why bother’. There are many other Makes of cars out there that are cheaper to run, have pleasant dealership staff who are always happy to help. I only continue to drive Volvo due to the cars ‘themselves’ being good products. A rating system sounds like a good idea, which would fairly depict what each of us think about a dealership rating (1) worst (10) best. |

RE: Name and Shame ?
I agree Completely!!! I could "Name" one in particular that did exactly just as you describe hence why I changed to a dealership in Aberdeen whose been outstanding every time...On parts anyway!!
On this one particular "place" I managed to obtain a complete "Free" exhaust, brand new Cos' they were binning it!!! I also managed half an exhaust for my fathers 440 "FOC". This leads me to another topic..... Is the club aware that dealerships "Bin" obsolete Stock?? That they DON'T allow it to be moved on at a reduced price?? I discovered this years ago with another club that I ran, and we had a ball!! The club managed to purchase over £10000 worth of spares for different models of car for a measily paltry sum! In fact, I found a breaker not far from me that purchased two racked trolley loads just to get two new headlights for a VW Polo all for £50!!! Can't be bad!! He claims (and I can vouch for this as the club did the same!!) that it saved his "Bacon" on many an occasion. Just something to think about... Me? I chance my arm any where I can get a good deal! (As I'm sure many of you out there do too!) Porsche owners Club have 33,000 square feet of storage space filled with obsolete parts for many a model. BMW have a sliding scale policy that the older the part gets the larger the reduction on the part. My colleague cracked the diff on an old 7 series off a sleeping policeman. He was affraid to ask for the price of a diff casing as the price would be Exorbitant!! he got it welded only to have it leak three weeks later!! Cost £75 notes! We persuaded him to ask BMW for a price... "That part is now Obsolete..." he's told "..However there's one in stock (somewhere in England, Can't remember Where) It's been there for years!! Let me make a call to see if it's still there" He called back "If I told you it was still in stock, How much would you be willing to pay as it's off our books now and owes us nothing?" "Errrm.. £28 quid is all I've got" came the reply "Done!!!It'll be in your local dealership next day" Imagine the laugh we had at this.. The Diff casing arrived albeit a bit Dirty/dusty but it was brand new!! Just ranting On now, but something to think about! Regards Dave M |

>That they DON'T allow it to be moved on at a reduced price?? Yes, we know about this practice. We have had some dealers offer obsolete stock cheap to members as recently as this year. But this may be a practice only allowed to the club. Bob bob@volvoclub.org.uk

RE: Name and Shame ?
I have recieved legal advice on the implications to the club of continuing this post.
To allow any such post the message has to be vetted, evidence provided by the person posting that it is genuine, a response from the dealership that includes permission to post the message, and a lot of other legal issues. It is in the 'extermely difficult' box, and our legal advisor has clearly set out the hot water the club could get in. Bottom line is that this topic cannot continue. I hope you will all respect and understand this decision. I expect there will be some responses to this, and I will reply to them all. There are lots of other things to chat about, and that takes me nicely into a possible future feature of the new version software for this forum (coming 16th Nov) that is being considered after a suggestion - a chat room. RE: Name and Shame ?
Bob
The ramifications of this type of thread are clear and has been the subject of numerous legal cases already. The recent Demon exposure being a good example. Too dangerous for all concerned. Chat Room. Please, please, please do not go down this road. It will be inpossible to police, no pun intended, will be open to far more abuse than posting in the normal forums and will bring more undesirables to the site. Plus, it will quickly attract the attention of the ISP due to extensive server activity. If people have something to say then let them say it here - it's worked that way so far. More importantly, it will reduce the reputation of the Club and this board and bring it down to the level of teenage chat room thingys. Plus, it may be against the ISP AUP - my company forbids any Client to host chat rooms for all of these reasons - and the fact I hate them !!! (One of the perks of being boss!) Climbing down of high horse now... Mike |

RE: Name and Shame ?
Mike, your superior professional knowledge has been a great help recently, and thanks again for your message above. I have never used chat rooms, not my scene, I saw only useful points about this and did not think about the negative points you make. Thanks for mentioning them, very important.
So, no chat room. Bob bob@volvoclub.org.uk
