Ive got oil coming from the exact same place, also i have a loud boost leak whistle and intermitten power loss, car isnt smoking cant find any holes in pipes or even damaged pipes, cat converter seems fine.
So the question is would it be possible this could cause the boost leak? |

I would recommend you read the Volvo service information (It was posted by one good chap some wekks ago), because many home service types bodge the job. New intake O ring, new EGR gasket, rust solvent (To free up the EGR valve), Carb cleaner, torque wrench, special Volvo removal tool and a real good mini shop vac cleaner etc. Volvo changed the spec of the 3 EGR retaining bolts some time after 2003, so if you want to do the job to their standards and presently have standard hex head bolts, you will need 3 new ones from Volvo. They are now some type of recessed hex drive machine screws. This is probably because of too many got rounded off or even sheared off. I did try and find a non Amr (Made in Germany) removal tool, but had no luck. I'm sure one listed on Fleabay would work, but I could not find one. I would not use a pipe wrench unless fitting a new EGR (The stealer fits new ones every 100K km cam belt service interval). The EGR valve is supposed to be in one piece, so if you find it split in two already, the previous owner was a DIY person. PS: I do have the removal tool and it can be copied by a good DIY type.

I used a oil filter wrench on mine. Its got hard rubber teeth so grips great and no damage. Sprayed carb cleaner round join then had a cuppa and after a bit of wrangling backwards and forwards it came out.

Good idea ,why do they get stuck you would think it would slide in and out,and what do these blanking plates do or can you damage the car by fitting one. |

I think they stick due to carbon and abit of oxidization between the surfaces. Never used a blanking plate but have heard good things if combined with a remap to take advantage of the different fueling, but don't know about emissions as that's partly what the valves for.

The UK MOT regs were upgraded, as was the emissions test and replacement CAT specs for this year. So if you blank off an EGR and then adjust the MAP to allow for it, then it is an MOT or emissions test failure point. The block was designed to use an EGR & CAT, so if it does not circulate some exhaust gas back when at idle or cold, the CHT falls which increases Carbon deposits in the cylinders and exhaust system. You clean the EGR with Carb cleaner and toothbrush (Not your own!), BUT when trying to get the valve to budge, Volvo say that dripping rust solvent along the edge of the manifold works better than Carb cleaner.
