I'm pleased.
On the 7th of November the MOT was due on my 1989 Volvo 240 and being rather busy only got round to getting it welded. I decided to get it welded as the outrigger was holed again and no time to DIY.
The garage cut more rust out and welded in new pieces. I then added more under-seal all over underneath. Friday at 3pm was the MOT time so your always nervous to see if it will pass. The tester liked the 240 and in his opinion the best model Volvo made. I was viewing him doing the MOT as I usually do and he tested everything, jacking the front and rear up and checking bushes for play, tyres, bearings, play etc. brake test and emissions etc It's a nervous time waiting but thankfully it passed with no advisories for the 3rd year I'm so chuffed with my 240 as being self employed and my only car it gets used a lot and loaded up with tools and materials and it never complains. It's averaged around 10,000 miles a year and now on 228,500 miles. It certainly is my best car and cheap on insurance for business use at £250 fully comp. So here is hoping for another year of reliable motoring James Registration number: Vehicle make: VOLVO Vehicle model: 240 Date first used: 1 January 1989 Fuel type: Petrol Colour: Silver MOT history of this vehicle Test date: 4 November 2016 Expiry date: 7 November 2017 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 228,431 miles MOT test number: 8716 8028 8350 Test date: 4 November 2015 Expiry date: 7 November 2016 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 217,347 miles MOT test number: 2043 9760 7556 Test date: 3 November 2014 Expiry date: 7 November 2015 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 207,377 miles MOT test number: 2786 1790 4332 Test date: 6 November 2013 Expiry date: 7 November 2014 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 198,763 miles MOT test number: 4960 3031 3476 Advisory notice item(s): Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.2.B.1f) Parking brake lever has little reserve travel (3.1.6b) Test date: 8 November 2012 Expiry date: 7 November 2013 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 188,964 miles MOT test number: 2585 6371 2308 Advisory notice item(s): Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g) Front Brake hose slightly deteriorated (3.6.B.4d) Oil leak Test date: 23 June 2009 Expiry date: 30 June 2010 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 159,389 miles MOT test number: 2801 2457 9424 Advisory notice item(s): Nearside Rear Upper Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3) Offside Rear Lower Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3) Test date: 17 June 2008 Expiry date: 30 June 2009 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 158,958 miles MOT test number: 1329 1916 8187 Test date: 25 June 2007 Expiry date: 30 June 2008 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 158,083 miles MOT test number: 1805 4627 7132 Test date: 25 June 2007 Test Result: Fail Odometer reading: 158,083 miles MOT test number: 2205 6687 7142 Reason(s) for failure: Offside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b) Rear registration plate deteriorated (6.3.1d) Test date: 1 July 2006 Expiry date: 30 June 2007 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 15,720 miles MOT test number: 5833 2258 6103 Last edited by volvo always; Nov 6th, 2016 at 00:20. |

Lucky you - mine just failed on the 8th.
1) Screen washers - they were OK, the stalk is a bit temperamental and the tester didn't have the knack. 2) Bits of rust for the first time - booked in for welding next week. 3) Rear seat belts missing! The stalks got trapped under the seat cushion and it jammed so I couldn't lift it to get the stalks out. It's been stood for over 2 years, I was worried the brake calipers might have seized, or something wrong with the electrics. Got a couple of advisories, brake hoses, tyres but they can wait until summer. |
