Nissen Radiator for 940 - new (York)
I bought a Nissen 65542A Radiator to replace the leaking one on my 940 2.3 LPT, but despite having done what I thought was sufficient research, it’s far too large!
I think it may actually be for the 2.0 but I’d advise checking dimensions (which I didn’t). Plastic edge to plastic edge is 690mm and 540mm top to bottom. It’s a new radiator, although the box is worn. £70 - collection from York. |

This is interesting - I think I bought the same radiator for my LPT a few months back but haven't fitted it yet. Guess what I'll be checking later today!!!

That is the correct radiator for a turbo (LPT or HPT) with aircon. Volvo did three sizes and originally supplied versions without the integral transmission fluid cooler for manual cars, but I don’t think they are produced any more.
The available core sizes are 450mmx418mm, 590mmx418mm and 590mmx499mm. The largest size hangs down through a slot in the radiator support making it hard to measure. It may be possible to fit a larger one but you’d probably need different hoses so I doubt it is worth the effort unless actively pursuing performance gains. This radiator will still fit your car if you change the hose from the radiator to the thermostat. If you have air-con, this is the radiator that should have been fitted to start with. It's possible somebody has bought the smaller radiator and changed the top hose.

It’s not a car with air conditioning. I bought it thinking it would fit, but was too large for the existing aperture so hadfitted a direct replacement instead (all well so far).
I’m hoping someone else can make use of it though. |

Looks like Yoda960 beat me to it, if it drops through, for whatever reason just let me know please.
Think from looking at responses this would fit my '94 940 2.0 Turbo, I have air con and auto box. Cheers Steve |

I wonder if the Nissens radiators as replacements are as poor at cooling as the Nissens heater matrix is at giving out heat? (30-40% less heat?)
Just a thought........ |

Actually, that's not what I meant. If the rad is poor at cooling, the engine would run slightly hotter!! Although wouldn't the better matrix help with cooling the engine, too?
