Sounds like we need another radio station in between Radio 1 and Radio 2. Radio 1.5 anyone?

I stopped listening to R2 years ago. When I was in the transport it was Alex Lester (The Dark Knight, Slap my top etc), Sarah Kennedy, Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce and then when Jeremy Whine show started I’d listen to another station until the drive time show. I’d tune into the Mo Dutta show on the weekend if I was in the road.
I’ve stopped listening to R2 altogether now in favour of LBC, Audiobooks and music streaming. I used to enjoy Steve Wright but the format got worn out over the decades so I stopped listening to it.

I always thought it was de rigueur for Volvo owners to have Radio 4 permanently tuned in?

All good points but perhaps we should spare a thought for the man himself. Apparently it's his decision to leave and at 71, who can blame him? To be a good radio presenter on a daily basis involves a considerable amount of work, particularly if you are operating at his level. He may simply have had enough.

However some time as a 'show and go' jock on commercial radio may be money for old rope by comparison and may be a pleasant way of easing into retirement. I'd take it. Wouldn't you?

He’s doing the same job at another station isn’t he?

Yes I believe he's moving to Greatest Hits in March, but that's not a lot of good for the many people who live in more rural areas where DAB is patchy at best.

I can get DAB mostly when using my radio in my home audio set up, but try to get DAB in the car, and there's not a lot of chance of even getting a signal.

Cheers
Steve

Button 1 = Classic fm - ONE hundred point something
2 = Radio2 - obviously
3 = Local radio - one oh THREE point THREE
4 = Radio4 - obviously
5 = Magic - one oh FIVE point four
6 = Other local radio - ninetyseven point SIX

I set up the wife's old car like this too, made it easy to find the right station, but now she's got DAB and touch screen with a long list of 'favourite' stations finding the one you want is like looking up someone with the surname Smith in a phone directory (woops showing my age there)

Will you be quiet, so he's ten years older than me, but we all want to believe the radio presenter is our age, which since I want to believe I'm still in my thirties makes him in his forties at most. Along with Fastpatsilent's 'dying demographic' you're putting me off my All Bran.
