Default Water pump replacement

Hi.

My XC60 D5 is currently in having an engine rebuild after the auxiliary belt snapped and got under the timing belt.

The garage have said they usually change the water pump with the second belt, but that's at 200k. My car is at 133k, so unsure whether to have it done, as most posts say leave it alone as they are bulletproof.

What do you think?

Most folk will say don't change original water pump, but you need to know its the original one and someone hasn't already changed it for a cheapie.
I've seen them do over 300k on a stock water pump, and as long as the right coolant has been in there and changed every 3 to 5 years, they are reliable.

However, some garages won't warranty their cam belt work unless they can change the pump as well, so insist on blue box parts if you do, though SKF/FAG/continental and gates are usually the ones who actually make the belts for volvo

I think the gen Volvo coolant is good for easily 5 years, probably longer. I have just changed mine with Volvo coolant and have no intention of doing it again The little Jazz is specced 10 years on the Honda coolant. Both my cars have low miles mind you.

If you do yearly ph and conducting measurements on the coolant you can yearly prolong the use of it

And the rest! My 1988 340 still has the original coolant, -37c freezing point, clear and bright green ( as it was then) .

I have been using volvo coolant since the 1970's in all sorts of cars . best value out there.

Back to the water pump.... personally I would change it of the engine is being dismantled but only for another genuine Volvo part.
