Unhappy My engine problems...

My tail of woe started last week when my 2001 S40 2.0T started idling 400-500rpms and hesitating on acceleration.
The specialist diagnosed a blown head gasket as there was no compression.
A phone call today said that when the head gasket was replaced, still no compression, and that it appeared there was a problem with the pistons....
I am now waiting for the final diagnosis.
Either way its gonna be pricey...
I've had the car chipped with Upsolute, boosted to 13psi peak and bypassed the BCS, nothing else.
These mods seemed to have caused the damage possibly by the engine running lean..??
I'm no boy racer and all this work was done over a year ago.
I'm currently a bit down as you might have guessed, and thats before the wife gets to see the bill....
I'm not sure its due to runnin lean but that is all I can think off....
Specialist said this is the first time he's seen this problem with pistons.
This could prove to be an expensive lesson

Thanks
Matthew

Commiserations on your bad luck.May I suggest a cheaper alternative to a new engine would be getting a good second hand unit from a reputable breaker and get all the annoying timing belts etc. changed before fitting-or paying someone to fit-the 'new' unit
All the best with it

Yeah cheers I've got a T4 engine on the way, 58,000 miles for £800 delivered
So it has been a costly lesson and the wife is pretty ****ed as I've managed to **** the car up......
It must have been running lean.....all the time

Sorry to hear about your motor. Running lean will soon burn pistons out on these. Always worth having the car mapped by a good company for extra power, if you need anymore now your fitting a T4 motor.

That's an expensive lesson alright. Any guarantee of work from Upsolute? Maybe they can help with the cost of the new unit? I'd give them a call...you'd never know!

I believe you'll need the T4 ecu with your new engine but I could be wrong about that. Or do you plan on using your chipped ecu?

this was the result of playing with my old engine. a lot of mods and no tune. was running very lean, but only one piston was damaged while the other 3 were spotless. might have been a faulty injector. second engine was not pushed until custom tuned by marco from MTE. no proplems so far and everybit of the tune was checked with wideband lambda to check correct fueling throughout. and yes, you will most likely need the ecu from the doner t4

I cant understand it because I had the ECU chipped by Upsolute, so fuelling shouldn't have been a problem...?!!?
I just need to check which map Upsoluted used when they did the chip.
If they just used the T4 map I'm good to go. If not I'll have to see if the specialist can re-flash the ECU.

Thanks Spangoolies

I thought about that but I dont think (well pretty sure) that the chip did the damage. It was probably the MBC upto 13 psi did it, I dont know....

Well, if you can check out the injectors.
If one of those fail you'll be in trouble.

With MBC you might have had a boost spike at low revs and that can cause damage to the pistons or con-rods.
2.0T doesn't have as strong engine as T4, so it's easier to break.

Good luck!
