Auto box AFT oil type
My Volvo 960 auto (1992) manual suggests that the ATF should be Dexron II D type. I have purchased Dexron II (no D suffix) and wondered if this was acceptable to use. If not will the Dexron III do? thanks Tim
PS what sort of milage do these cars achieve? This one is 150K |

RE: Auto box AFT oil type
As for the oil, I have no idea but as for the milage. The 960 that you own will have the B6304 engine most probably or one of its smaller siblings. This engine is the 6 cylinder version of the B52045, i.e. the 5 cylinder engine built by Volvo for their "revolutionising" car, the 850. Rather than, like in all previos "Swedish" Volvos (as opposed to the 300/400 series), base the engine on the old B-range staring back with the PV, the engineers at Volvo literally removed all blueprints of engines and started from the beginning. The result was an engine as reliable as the old B-range but far more modern and smother. Volvo also made these new cars, i.e. the 850 range, FWD. These engines are good, but they require maintenance and as they are all of the interference type, they need to have the timing belt and the belt tensioner replaced as a broken belt is a major issue as the valves will bend and brake the valve seats and pistons on the way. Look after your 960 and it will run for ever. This is the key to all Volvos really. I would recommend Brickboard.com as the Yankees are more expenrienced with the 960's, they are far more popular over there due to being rather thristy. Enjoy your brick!!
